We may have been a bit quiet on the blog front recently, but there's lots happening behind the scenes so thought it was time for a brief update.
Play/Exercise Equipment
A few of us met today with Councillor Innes, Stuart Pryde & Dougie Fox from
East Lothian Council, to discuss the £87k allocated to Cuthill Park in the capital budget for play equipment.
Once we have finalised our requirements, the design brief will go out to the preferred equipment suppliers who will prepare designs for us to choose from. We hope to have things in place by the end of the year. We welcome ideas and anyone wishing to have input to this is encouraged to come along to the next Friends of Cuthill Park meeting on Thursday, 24th July from 7pm in the Goth.
At this meeting we will develop both our overall plan for the park (from the public consultation) & guidelines for the council's design brief for the
play/exercise equipment.
Prestongrange Link
One of the long term aims of the Friends of Cuthill Park group is to reinstate the path from the park to Prestongrange Museum linking to core path 169.
There is a possibility of relocating a former railway bridge from its current location at the museum to the park which would be an unusual way of linking the two sites and could have a number of practical applications as well as being an unusual decorative feature.
Plans are at a very early stage but we are looking into restoration/removal costs and sources of funding. As always, we would welcome any help, technical, administrative or otherwise!
Wildlife Area
A small group are working on clearing the undergrowth in the
wooded area by the small gate in order to be able to set up a nature trail
& wildlife area. If you'd like to be involved please let us know. Currently, the newly-formed group meets on Friday mornings but also at other times as and when volunteers are available.
Community Garden
We still have a shed load of timber (literally!). If any community groups or families are interested in having a raised bed, please get in touch.
Depending on interest, we may start a waiting list or look into building more beds.
The next Work Day is this Saturday, 12 July 11-1pm, in the Community Garden.
We need to weed the fedge, water the trees, weed, do some landscaping, weed....did we mention the weeds?! Don't worry if weeding isn't your thing, there is plenty work for all!
It won't all be hard work though - so bring a picnic and enjoy the wonderful wide open space of Cuthill Park. If the recent Queen's Baton Relay through Prestonpans, has got you in the Commonwealth Games spirit, you will be pleased to know we have lots of sporting goodies (and medals!) courtesy of Fields in Trust for you and your little ones. Perfect for impromptu egg and spoon races! It will be fun - hope you can join us!
